A Reverse Osmosis (RO) system followed by an Electrodeionization (EDI) unit was installed for a large company in California. Reverse osmosis works by reversing the natural process of osmosis, where water moves through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. In RO, a high-pressure pump forces water through the membrane, allowing only water molecules to pass while blocking salts, organic matter, and other contaminants. Pure water emerges on the permeate side of the membrane, while contaminants are flushed away in a brine stream and drained.
